March 26: Today we went to Pompeii, another town burnt to a crisp by mont Vesuvius. Our guide was Giovani, and it only took two hours but we covered lots of ground. Most of the buildings were intact and, the streets still had original stones on them. I went to Pompeii with dad two years ago but I didn't remember much. There were some human skeletons found that had casts to keep then preserved over the years. It was beautiful. Pompeii is at least two times bigger then the town we were at yesterday day. Then we all went home and mum and dad went back out to see Oplontis, another town destroyed by Vesuvius in 79AD, with the Villa Poppea built for Nero's wife where she would bath in a huge pool filled with donkey milk. 1. good coverage of Pompeii. I have wonderful memories and recall also the guides who were very insistent on telling their complete story and no wandering around on our own. The remnants of floor mosaics and wall murals really does bring Pompeii to life.
